RYA Emergency Boat Handling Course

The basis of this course is the RYA Powerboat Level 2. This is the recognised rescue services standard for being a competent small boat handler. The course is adapted for search and rescue (SAR).
Duration: 3 days (2 days Power Boat Level 2 and 1 day search and rescue)

Emergency Rescue and Powerboat Training Instructors Course

RYA VHF/SRC Radio Course

The SRC course is now delivered by two distinct methods the interactive online approach or the class room based approach. Both methods cover the same syllabus and are the preparation for the Face to Face Assessment required by Ofcom and managed through the RYA. The VHF course is the most commonly used communications tool for marine users. The syllabus covers the procedures for use in a VHF radio and covers the importance for Digital Selective calling DSC in distress situations. We advise trying the RYA taster course to gain an overview of the subject matter and also to ensure your computer is compatible with the RYA Interactive System. Click for the interactive page or contact Skilltrack directly if you wish to do the classroom course.

RYA Professional Practices and Responsibilities (PPR)

This online based course is essential for any one working on the water in a professional and/or commercial capacity. The course covers the principles of marine legislation. The course will enable the professional to reflect on his/her own practice and appreciate the extent of their own responsibilities. We advise trying the RYA taster course to gain an overview of the subject matter and also ensure your computer is compatible with the RYA Interactive System. Click for the interactive page.

RYA Essential Navigation

The essential navigation course is an introduction to navigation; it is designed for someone new to any water based activity. The course can be delivered in a classroom or online course. We have found that a blended approach is frequently the best option where the learner attends an initial classroom session and finishes the course in own time with remote tutor support by phone as required. We advise trying the RYA taster course to gain an overview of the subject matter and also to ensure your computer is compatible with the RYA Interactive System. Click for the interactive page or contact Skilltrack directly if you wish to do the classroom course.

RYA Basic Sea Survival

The sea survival course covers the effects of cold water shock, medical conditions that may be encountered in a survival situation, the correct procedures for summoning assistance and how to survive until assistance is obtained.
Duration: 1 day

Unstable Ground Rescue

The East coast of England is renowned for its muddy foreshores. Mud rescue techniques are particularly important for rescue teams working in these areas. The techniques can be modified to deal with ice rescue.
Duration: 1 day

RYA Diesel Engine Maintenance

This RYA accredited course provides awareness of the main systems of a marine diesel engine. The course teaches basic diagnostics and how to rectify minor defects whilst on the water. This course is suitable for those crewing and helming vessels using diesel engines.
Duration: 1 day

Swift Water Rescue

This course builds on the previous courses and teaches techniques for search and rescue (SAR) operating in swift water conditions.
Duration: 2 days

Line Rescue

This course teaches how to use lines for search and rescue (SAR) purposes. It uses techniques employed by the military and rescue services.
Duration: 3 days

RYA First Aid

The RYA First Aid course is designed to give the basic knowledge for being able to be an effective first aid responder. The course is classroom based. All commercially endorsed practioners must hold a recognised First Aid Certificate.
Duration: 1 day

RYA Radar

The RYA RADAR one day training courses covers how to use RADAR for both navigation and collision avoidance. The course will explain when RADAR is an effective tool and when RADAR’s use is limited. The tutor will explain the principles of how to tune a RADAR set, using a simulator. The simulated training will be used to generate scenarios demonstrating how to use RADAR appropriately.
Duration: 1 day

Local Knowledge Endorsement (River Thames)

Anyone working commercially on the River Thames  between Margaretness and Putney Bridge is required to have passed  The local Knowledge Endorsement. Skilltrack can provide courses and training to ensure that individuals are prepared for the examination.
